Auditions will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2017 from 6 – 10 p.m. at Virginia Rep’s November Theatre, 114 West Broad St.

Auditions are by appointment only.

Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2017.

Those auditioning are asked to read from the script. Sides will be sent via e-mail by Sept 27, 2017.

Rehearsals begin March 20, 2018 for a run of April 18 – May 6, 2018 at Virginia Rep’s November Theatre.

Union and Non-Union. All performers will be paid.

Casting the following roles*:

Arlo: Caucasian. Early 20’s. From New Orleans. Imaginative children’s book author. A bit of a dandy. His faith in beauty and love helps him cope with the pain of his past. Self-educated and proud of it. A pacifist in a violent world.

Sunshine: African American. Early 20’s. From New Orleans. Strong willed and determined, but unsure of what life holds for her having fled the clutches of a violent, controlling fiancé.

Atticus Dye: Caucasian. 45-60. Owner/operator of saloon and whorehouse in New Orleans. A cold, dominating man prone to fits of violent rage. Believes as a wealthy white man he is entitled to dominion. Driven to violence by deeply buried shame and regret.

Lily: Caucasian. 45-60. A career prostitute in New Orleans. Strong, but weathered and damaged from both her work and loving an emotionally and physically abusive man. A cunning woman willing to outwit the devil to protect her children.

*The roles of Harlan, Owen, and Toe are cast.
